North Carolina is always alluring to Floridians. It beckons us with visions of mountain vistas, cool waterfalls, rushing rivers. Sounded like just the right trip. We searched online for cabins, and settled on our cabin “Sadie’s Retreat.” We left Lutz at 6 am, arriving just before the sun set over the mountains in full view from the front porch of our new home away from home. We were thrilled! We spent almost all evenings cooking on the grill and watching the sunset which inspired my vacation painting below.

The Lake Lure trip was fun, but over way too fast as vacations are. Sadie’s Retreat was a good choice in terms of location. It is actually in full view of Chimney Rock and takes 5 minutes to get to the entrance. We found out a secret about the Fees at Chimney rock as well. If you go late in the day 2 hours before they close at 6pm, you can go back the next day for free. This is a big deal because its expensive. Its only a half hour from Asheville, Broad River Tubing was right up the road and there are plenty of restaurants and shops in the vicinity. While the cabin is not directly on the lake, there were many excursions that included trips around beautiful Lake Lure and The Broad River.
We enjoyed meeting neighbor Mary Sue who we spoke with each time she walked her dog by and, who moved from Haines City Florida to Lake Lure 30 years ago.
Sadie’s Retreat is a pet friendly cabin as well. We brought our two dogs who were thrilled to find they had their own beds! They loved being porch dawgs and spent most of their time hanging with us on the front porch with only one loud ” tail meets rocker” incident.
If you’d like to stay at Sadie’s Retreat, we highly recommend it as a clean, newer cabin with all amenities. Contact Kimberly Christenbury for details on rentals. Her email is info@vacationrentalsbysadie.com.
